Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
With Kolkata’s temperature reaching nearly 37°C, Kolkata Police has reduced traffic police duty hours to six hours to protect personnel from extreme heat. On Wednesday, Commissioner Manoj Verma announced the change, stating that the rising heat poses significant challenges for officers working outdoors. The measure is temporary and will be in effect during the summer.
At Park Circus Seven Point, 557 Kolkata Traffic Police personnel received summer kits to help them cope with the heat. The kits included water bottles, ORS, sunglasses, and umbrellas. Commissioner Manoj Verma, Additional CP D.P. Singh, and Additional CP Shubhankar Sinha Sarkar were present at the distribution. "Due to the high temperature, it becomes difficult for traffic police to work, so duty hours have been reduced to six hours," Verma said.
Security measures have also been increased in the city ahead of Ram Navami. Meanwhile, the Commissioner stated that 69 individuals have been issued lookout notices for allegedly making fake passports, with some suspects having fled abroad. Regarding recent developments in Jadavpur, he confirmed that one student has been arrested, and several others have been served notices for further questioning.
